Cork city observed a very quiet St Patrick s Day on 17 March 1921.
The Kerryman described a subdued city in which armoured cars and lorries and military on foot patrolled the streets . Pedestrians were held up and searched after High Mass and shots were fired in Grand Parade and near Patrick s Bridge in the afternoon. Since 10 December 1920, Cork had been a city under martial law.  ....
