Dickinson County Trails Continue Planning for Phases Two and Three of Clay County Connection Project By charguth April 9, 2021 8:45 am Saga Communications Milford, IA (KICD)– The dream of having a continuous trail running from Spencer to through the Iowa Great Lakes Area is getting closer to becoming a reality as both Dickinson and Clay Counties work on meeting up at the county line. Dickinson County Trails Association Director Erin Reed came to the Board of Supervisors earlier this week to request two resolutions to allow planning work on phases two and three of the Clay County Connection project continue. Reed says the actual connection between the two counties will likely involve users having to cross Highway 71 at Fostoria. ....

Dickinson County Supervisors Approve Changes To Hotel/Motel Tax Ordinance By charguth January 26, 2021 2:50 pm Saga Communications Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors approved a change to an ordinance Tuesday morning that determines what happens with funds from the county’s hotel/motel tax. The original language had half of the funds going to the general fund and the other half going solely to Okoboji Tourism, but the Supervisors wanted to make a change to that second half to give them a little more control of the money as explained by Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders. Tuesday’s discussion brought resort owners Lynn Fillenwarth and Bridget Johnson to the Dickinson County Courthouse in support of continued funding to tourism in the Iowa Great Lakes Area with Johnson saying 75-percent of her business last summer was visitors who had never been to the area before. ....
