China confirms ongoing flight-tests of KJ-600 AEW aircraft 23 February 2021 by Gabriel Dominguez Chinese media confirmed on 21 February that the Xian Aircraft Corporation (XAC) is continuing flight-tests of its locally developed KJ-600 carrier-borne airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft, with the latest flight taking place on 27 January. State-owned China Central Television (CCTV) showed images of the aircraft, which is being developed to for the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), flying over the central Chinese city of Xian. (Courtesy of Planet Labs) MELBOURNE, Australia Satellite imagery appears to indicate China has begun serial production of a tanker aircraft based on its indigenous Xi’an Y-20 airlifter, filling a notable gap in the power projection capabilities of its air force. The overhead imagery of the airfield at Xi’an-Yanliang taken Dec. 30, 2020, and provided to Defense News by Planet Labs shows four Y-20s with the shadows of refueling pods on their outer wings clearly visible, indicating that these are Y-20U tankers. ....

The MEU list amends the US government’s Export Administration Regulations (EAR), which aim to control the export of sensitive technologies. Companies on the list are subject to special export licencing requirements. Source: AVIC The Xian Aircraft MA700 Previous press reports had suggested Comac, a major user of western aerospace technology, would be included in the list, which was published on 23 December. “This action establishes a new process to designate military end users on the MEU List to assist exporters in screening their customers for military end users,” says commerce secretary Wilbur Ross. ....
