Covid safety measures continue at Northumbria NHS


HOSPITALS across Northumberland and North Tyneside are set to continue with current pandemic safety measures for the foreseeable future to help protect everyone from infections.
The safety measures introduced nationally have helped not only protect staff, patients and visitors over the past year, but enabled Northumbria Healthcare to continue providing many non-urgent services that would otherwise have been postponed.
All staff, visitors and outpatients at the trust’s ten hospitals are currently required to wear face masks, socially distance and wash their hands before entering the site and these measures will continue into the future.
Chief executive Sir James Mackey said: “We keep these sorts of issues under constant review but it’s clear that the infection prevention control measures at hospital sites will continue to be vital in protecting everyone into the future. ....

Northumbria Healthcare Trust plan for future after meeting


Patients in Northumberland have been reassured that hospitals are able to continue function as normal after a meeting of the board of the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The meeting, which took place today, (May 27), was designed to show how the Trust plans to recover following the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Trust’s chief executive Sir James Mackey also said the number of current positive cases of Covid-19 as well as the number of hospitalisations both remain low across the region despite fears in recent days of the Indian variant of the disease spreading at a fast rate.
As well as discussing the pandemic, the Trust also revealed that the number of emergency department attendances is now at a rate of which is more similar to that of before last March, although have asked people to continue to use their local pharmacy, GP or 111 service when able to do so. ....
