The Regional Hospital Mullingar’s emergency department and hospital continues to be extremely busy and are seeing a lot of seriously ill patients, many of which are over 75 years of age with a variety of complex healthcare needs.    
A spokesperson for Ireland East Hospital Group said this Monday morning, We apologise for the distress or inconvenience caused to patients or their loved ones who are experiencing long wait times. 
The Full Capacity Protocol has been implemented our consultants are doing additional ward rounds to facilitate discharges and we are working with the community to discharge patients where it is appropriate to the community. ....

Further blow for paediatric diabetic clinic at Mullingar Hospital

The clinic has been the subject of a campaign by parents and service users to see appointments restored.
The Ireland East Hospital Group need to outline why it has rejected a plan for a multidisciplinary team for the paediatric diabetic clinic at Mullingar Hospital,
That s according to Sinn Fein s Sorca Clarke who says that while interviews have been held for the role of Advanced Nurse Practitioner, the lead consultant has made the case that this appointment needs to be part of a wider team including a Senior Dietician and a Clinical Psychologist.
A business plan was put forward by the hospital for a Clinical Psychologist, but that was not approved, and the service will not re-open without these supports. ....
