BFI Flare, London’s LGBTQ+film festival, is different this year. In the midst of a pandemic that forced queer nightlife venues shut and separated LGBTQ+ people from their chosen families, the festival will be streamed remotely once again. Yet distance presents an opportunity to make BFI Flare even more inclusive. The 2021 edition will include 26 features and 38 free shorts from 23 countries, which will be available to stream for the duration of the festival (March 17-28). ....

Five short films from India, Spain, Sweden, UK and the USA will be made available for free online as part of the world’s largest LGBTIQ+ digital campaign.

Five Films For Freedom, the world’s largest LGBTIQ+ digital campaign, returns for its seventh edition in 2021, reminding audiences that ’Love is still a human right’. Broadcasting five brand new LGBTIQ+ films to countries around the world, this year’s programme showcases queer storytelling from India, Spain, Sweden, USA and the UK.
In a continuing creative partnership, the British Council has selected five short films from the BFI Flare: London LGBTIQ+ Film Festival and will make them available across the British Council’s global digital networks, for free, from 17 to 28 March. ....

The 35th edition of the BFI Flare: London LGBTIQ+ Film Festival will take place online with films available U.K.-wide via the BFI Player.
The 2020 physical edition of the festival was dramatically canceled at the last minute due to the rapid onset of coronavirus and forced to go online. A year down the line, the pandemic is still very much around, and cinemas are unlikely to open before May 17, necessitating another digital edition.

The 2021 edition will include 26 features and 38 free shorts from 23 countries. There isn’t an opening or closing film this year and all films will be available March 17-28, the duration of the festival. ....
