NAMPA â The South Fork of the Boise River downstream from Anderson Ranch Dam is a nationally-renowned tailwater trout fishery and was the first river section in the Idaho Department Fish and Gameâs Southwest Region to be managed as a trophy trout fishery. Known for its trophy Rainbow Trout and Mountain Whitefish, the South Fork is also home to some quality Bull Trout. One of the more unique features of this fishery is that it consists of two recreationally distinct sections. A popular roaded section (~ 16 km) runs from Anderson Ranch Dam downstream to Danskin Bridge and is popular for both drift boat and wade fishing while a canyon section (~ 27 km) runs from Danskin Bridge downstream to Neal Bridge. With extremely limited access by foot or road because of high canyon walls, this canyon section is accessible mostly by raft due to varying levels of whitewater. Senate Bill 1211 which calls for the killing of up to 90% of Idaho s wolf population was pushed through the senate on Thursday. Republican Sen. Mark Harris testified on behalf of Idaho s agricultural industry claiming, “These wolves, there’s too many in the state of Idaho now, of which are destroying ranchers and wildlife and that the bill is needed. According to The Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Idaho s wolf population has been steady at 1,500 in the past two years. This bill would cut that down to 150 pushing wolves in Idaho to nearly the brink of being federally listed under the Endangered Species Act if the population were to reach 100. ....

1:11 Salmonella is always in the environment, and localized outbreaks happen somewhat regularly in the summer. However, Idaho Department Fish and Game biologist Lyn Smoddy says the spread started earlier this year and is affecting a much larger area than usual. So far, there have been reports in California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and North Carolina. It is mostly affecting birds you’d see congregated at feeders, like finches, including common redpolls, goldfinches and pine siskins, and grosbeak species. Smoddy says a mild winter could be to blame, since some birds stayed farther north or in lower elevations, and then “those species would be at feeders more than we would normally see them.” ....
