WASHINGTON The Pentagon went on lockdown on Tuesday after a shooting at a bus and subway station just outside the highly secure US military headquarters.
Employees in the US Defence Department office complex in the Arlington suburb of Washington were ordered to shelter in place for more than an hour after gunfire erupted in the station, the entrance of which is just a few metres from the building’s main doors.

A Pentagon police officer has been confirmed dead after he was stabbed multiple times in the neck outside the Pentagon Metro entrance Tuesday morning.
The police officer opened fire on the assailant after the attack started outside the Pentagon metro entrance. The suspect was shot dead by police, according to a CNBC report. However, it is not yet clear which police officer had killed the assailant.
Sen. Mark Warner, a Virginia Democrat, released his sentiments on Twitter. Warner said he was saddened to learn about the passing of a Pentagon police officer.

WASHINGTON A police officer is dead after an alleged stabbing near the Pentagon Metro Bus Station Tuesday afternoon, according to the Associated Press.
The Pentagon was on lockdown for more than an hour after multiple gunshots were fired near a platform by the facility’s Metro bus station. Pentagon Chief of Police Woodrow Kusse said at 10:37 a.m., a Pentagon officer was attacked on the bus platform and gunfire was exchanged.
