Mr President, I would like to offer my thanks to the Prosecutor, Madame Bensouda, for briefing us today on her 21st report on the situation in Libya.
The UK welcomes recent political progress in Libya, including the appointment of the interim Government of National Unity (GNU). As noted in UNSCR 2570, this government is charged with making the necessary preparations for inclusive, transparent and credible national Presidential and Parliamentary elections on 24 December 2021. As part of the process towards securing a sustainable political settlement, the GNU must start the process of national reconciliation and provide accountability and justice for atrocity crimes, and I encourage the GNU to work with the Office of the Prosecutor to achieve these goals an ....

With Myanmar’s post-coup crisis dragging into its third month, security forces commanded by the coup leader Sen. Gen. Min Aung Hlaing show no sign of abating in their brutal suppression of the anti-coup protests that have erupted across the country since early February. Despite their massive numbers, protestors have been highly disciplined and peaceful. It was only after the security forces began using excessive and lethal force that a small pocket of them resorted to handmade weapons such as Molotov cocktails and outdated hunting guns to defend themselves, with many more realizing that armed resistance was their only remaining option. ....

Money-minded army destroying Myanmar - Newspaper

THIS is with reference to a number of news reports about the recent military takeover in Myanmar, protests against the coup and the junta’s brutal killing of citizens seeking return to democracy. The official Dawn website carried a report ‘Nun kneels in front of police to stop Myanmar violence, but in vain’ (March 9) which really exposed the brutal face of the military regime.
The report was based on a video showing Sister Ann Rose Nu Tawng in a white robe and black habit kneeling on a street in the town of Myitkyina, speaking to two policemen who were also kneeling. Ultimately, however, she did not succeed in convincing the policemen. So far, well over 60 people have been killed and more than 1,800 detained in the crackdown on protests against the Feb 1 coup. ....

Venezuela: UN Fact-Finding Mission Underscores Grave and Persistent Rights Abuses
The mission’s rigorous documentation clearly demonstrates sustained and severe human rights abuses in Venezuela, as well as impunity for the perpetrators.
In response to the UN Fact Finding Mission’s (FFM) oral update on the human rights situation in Venezuela before the UN Human Rights Council, Freedom House issued the following statement:
“Freedom House commends the FFM’s oral update to its report published in September 2020, which reaffirms that the human rights violations occurring in Venezuela could amount to crimes against humanity. The FFM’s rigorous documentation counters the regime’s false narrative of cooperation with the United Nations, clearly demonstrates sustained and severe human rights abuses, and highlights the scarcity of official investigations into those abuses or consequences for perpetrators,” said Gerardo Berthin, director for Latin America and Caribbe ....
