SHARING OPTIONS: The NI dairy sector would become a cottage industry if radical climate targets are adopted, industry leaders have warned. The provisional findings of an independent analysis commissioned by the Northern Ireland (NI) agri-food industry suggests that livestock numbers will have to be cut by up to 85% to achieve a target of net zero carbon emissions by 2045. That target is set out in a private members’ bill taken forward by NI Green Party leader Clare Bailey, currently being scrutinised by politicians at Stormont. Giving evidence to the Stormont agriculture committee last Thursday, the chief executive of the NI Meat Exporters’ Association (NIMEA) Conall Donnelly delivered a blunt assessment of the proposed legislation. The Federation of Indian Export Organisation and several other export promotion bodies have made a joint appeal to chief minister Mamata Banerjee to allow movement of inter-state carriages and operations with 50 per cent workforce. The government had announced stricter restrictions to control the spread of Covid-19. The federation wants export-oriented MSME sector, manufacturers, SEZs, process industries and their raw material vendors to operate with at least 50 per cent workforce. The federation said suspension of work and ban on movement of inter-state trucks had resulted in the imposition of heavy penalties on exporters by foreign buyers for failing to honour the deadline and commitment. ....
MSMEs seek financial package Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Industries, particularly the Micro, Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSMEs) in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts have appealed to the Central and State governments to extend a special financial package to the units. The Industrial Associations of Coimbatore appealed to the Union Finance Minister to announce a stimulus package for MSMEs that are affected by the pandemic and lockdown. The interest moratorium for six months has been debited with the entire six months interest on March 31, this year. Further, one-year interest moratorium for principal repayment will start for all the units from June. The units that are already under stress due to interest moratorium and price increase of raw materials, will not be able to meet the payment deadline set by the banks.
