The Benedictine Sisters of Mount Angel established the St. Joseph Family Shelter in 1988 as a ministry of hospitality in response to the Gospel message of care for those in need. Hospitality has been a foundational charism of the Benedictines since the beginning of the order in 529 AD. In 2017, the sisters reached out to Catholic Community Services for help in sustaining the ministry. Today, Catholic Community Services, the Benedictine Sisters, Mount Angel Abbey, the Exchange Club and other community partners work together to keep the shelter’s doors open to those families in dire need of shelter. ....
