Got this feeling on a summer day: Top Bay Area spots to catch the sunset
Sunny Shen/Staff
Ah, summer. With the air getting warmer and the days getting longer, my favorite time of year is almost upon us. Whether you’re planning to road trip down the California coast or make bank at your new internship, there’s no better way to end these hot summer days than by watching the sunset. Here are the best spots in and around Berkeley to enjoy some of the most beautiful sunset views you’ll ever see.
Grizzly Peak
The first sunset I saw from the Tilden View Point on Grizzly Peak Boulevard took my breath away. A calm breeze coated my sunburnt face while I watched the clouds turn a brilliant warm pink as the sun retired for the day. With a gorgeous view of campus and the bay and close proximity to campus, this location is definitely a must-visit.

Lands End
Lands End / Presidio
Smith Collection/Gado

Sunny days yield views far out into the ocean and north to the hills of Marin, with Golden Gate views worthy of a postcard. More frequent foggy days are no less beautiful, shrouding groves of cypress and eucalyptus in a moody fine mist. Start by descending the steps to the Sutro Baths, the ruins of a 19th-century ocean-fed bathhouse, before scaling the stairs back up and winding your way north.
