85 families being evicted from Southeast Austin apartments

Paul Rodriguez and dozens of his neighbors gathered Tuesday morning outside the front office of the Rosemont at Oak Valley apartments in Southeast Austin after 85 families received notice Friday that they were being evicted and must move out by July 31.
In a letter to residents, the complex told residents their leases were being terminated because of natural disaster and catastrophe caused by the February freeze that led to widespread power and water outages, and broken pipes.
“While Rosemont at Oak Valley has taken steps in order to mitigate the effects of any damage, we have found that the extent of damage experienced in your unit will unfortunately require that we terminate your lease and you to vacate the unit so that we may make the necessary repairs,” the letter states.   ....

ERCOT facing fresh woes as strains on Texas' power grid continue

The operator of Texas power grid is facing fresh skepticism after the grid faced a near emergency Tuesday just two months since February s deadly power outages.
Even though it was a mild spring afternoon with highs in the 70s and 80s, power generation came close to falling short of demand Tuesday, leading the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to call for conservation. In the end, no blackouts were ordered as electricity use fell in the evening hours.
However, the failure to accurately predict power generation amid warmer-than-expected temperatures even though the agency knew that 25% of the grid s power generation had been shut down for maintenance brought new criticism for ERCOT, which has faced much of the blame for widespread power outages during February s winter storms. ....
