Covai Design competition winners announced Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Coimbatore Corporation and Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH have announced winners of the ‘Co(Vai) Design’ competition. The website hosted for the competition said Purvi Bhatt Chhadva, Nikhil Rodrigo, Sushma Aradhya, Amrapali Sharma, Devki Bhatt, and Anukriti Sharma had won the first place. The design competition was a national-level urban design competition aimed at designing implementable urban civic projects that were key to sustainable development of a site in Kavundampalayam, Coimbatore. Kumaravel Pandian said on Tuesday after inspecting the MGR Wholesale Market and a few other places. Officials, who accompanied him, said the shifting was to decongest the MGR market to ensure traders and visitors adhered to COVID-19 safety protocol. The Corporation considered the possibility of moving them to the Mettupalayam Road bus stand, as it had done in 2020 when the lockdown was in effect, but decided against it because the bus stand was in use. The Corporation chose Eru Company because wholesale tomato traders from the Market continued to use a portion of the bus stand. Asking the onion traders to move to the bus stand would decongest the Market, and lead to overcrowding in the bus stand. ....
Updated: Share Article AAA Coimbatore Corporation is mulling imposing restriction on conducting business at T.K. Market after officials see overcrowding and non compliance to safety guidelines. After reimposing COVID-19 safety guidelines and intensifying measures to check violation, the Coimbatore Corporation has turned its attention towards T.K. Market and a few other markets in the city. Sources in the civic body said the Corporation was mulling allowing only 50% traders to function on a day and the rest the next day as it done last year during the lockdown. The Corporation could arrive at a decision in the next couple of days. ....
Coimbatore: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested a village administrative officer (VAO) on Thursday while accepting bribe from a person at his office in Pannimadai. A retired village assistant was also arrested in connection with the case. The arrested people were identified as VAO S Sivakumar, 39, of Eru Company and R Palanisamy of Hudco Colony at Vellakinar. S Karthi, a resident of Pannimadai, had applied for name transfer of patta document online. When Karthi approached him, Sivakumar allegedly demanded Rs 7,000. He asked Karthi to hand over the money to retired village assistant Palanisamy. Karthi informed DVAC officials, who laid a trap. TNN ....
