Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism Officially Begins Operating Lake Sylvia Recreation Area — KFFB 106.1 FM — Arkansas Radio — Online Radio–Arkansas Politics–Local News


The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism (ADPHT) held an event today at Lake Sylvia Recreation Area to officially mark the beginning of operating and managing the area as a unit of Pinnacle Mountain State Park. ADPHT has signed a historic property lease with the United States Forest Service (USFS) to do so. The USFS will continue to partner with ADPHT and Arkansas State Parks (ASP) in the environmental management of the area.
This plan was made public last month when Gov. Asa Hutchinson included it as part of the announcement that a new Office of Outdoor Recreation would be housed within the Secretary’s Office of ADPHT. At that time, Gov. Hutchinson emphasized the push to expand recreational opportunities in Arkansas that contribute to the state’s tourism value. ....

City now reviewing contract with Miami Waterkeeper

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – At the beginning of the year, given all the sewage spills in Fort Lauderdale last year, the city contacted Miami Waterkeeper, a nonprofit organization, to report on the city’s recreational water quality.
During Thursday’s commission meeting, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean J. Trantalis said recreational water safety was an “election issue” and the regularity of the water testing for bacteria was a “controversial item.”
Trantalis said he was dissatisfied with Miami Waterkeeper’s decision to publish the test results on Twitter. He added the results of the testing on bacterial levels are the city’s proprietary information. ....
