Island Health is reporting that Crofton Elementary School had a confirmed COVID-19 exposure between January 25th and 27th.
Public Health works directly with school staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed to the Coronavirus and conduct contact and case management.
If you haven’t been contacted by Island Health, your child is not at-risk and can continue attending classes, assuming they don’t have any associated symptoms.

COVID-19 cases found at Lake Cowichan School, Ecole Ballenas Secondary

An exposure refers to a single case within a school community.
Island Health does contact tracing for any staff or students who may need to self-isolate or self-monitor for symptoms.
Jaime Doyle, principal of Lake Cowichan School’s secondary section, said on Facebook that the exposure was “very limited” in scope and all possible contacts have been notified.
“However, this is a good reminder to our community to not let their guard down and keep vigilant about mask wearing, hand washing and social distancing,” he said.
COVID-19 exposure was also reported this week at Ecole Macaulay Elementary School in the Greater Victoria School District. Potential exposure dates were Jan. 20, 21 and 22. ....

Extracurricular funding on its way to K-12 students in the Cowichan Valley

School advisory councils in the Cowichan Valley, as well as the rest of the province, are getting some funding to ensure extracurricular activities are available when students can safely participate.
It’s all thanks to more than $11 million in funding through the B.C. government’s Community Gaming Grants program.
The program works to keep activities that benefit the social, cultural, and physical health and well-being of students afloat.
K-12 students are given support for experiences like student publications, grad ceremonies, and sports or playground equipment, as well as writing, drama, and music clubs thanks to the grants program. ....
