ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The campaign for Senate election in the country came to an end at 12:00 midnight (night between Monday and Tuesday) while voting to elect members of upper house of the parliament will be held on March 3 (Wednesday), Dunya News reported.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has drawn attention of political parties and contesting candidates for Senate elections to the provisions of Section 182 of the Elections Act 2017, which provides that no person shall convene, hold or attend any public meeting and no person shall promote or join in any procession within the area of a province during a period of 48 hours, ending at midnight following the conclusion of the poll for an election in that province/federal capital. ....

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday finalized all necessary arrangements for holding Senate elections on Wednesday (March 3) on the seats which are going to be vacant after retirement of members on March 11.
According to an official of ECP, the polling will be held from 0900 hours to 1700 hours simultaneously in the Parliament House Islamabad, and provincial assembly buildings in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The polling is due on two seats in Islamabad, 11 each in Punjab and Sindh, and 12 each in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan- that will fall vacant on the expiration of the term of the members. However there will be no polling in Punjab because of un-contested elections of candidates on all 11 seats of Punjab. ....

The upcoming Senate elections have become a challenge for the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI). The party fears a repeat of the previous elections when several party parliamentarians did not vote for its candidates. In the end, twenty MPAs were expelled from the party. There is also infighting and dissatisfaction with some nominations. Party leaders, however, have said that the disputes will be resolved soon.
The PTI government’s bid to hold Senate elections through a show of hands rather than secret ballot and its choice of first a reference to the Supreme Court and then an ordinance to change the rules, has attracted much comment. LAHORE: After the withdrawal of seven more nomination papers by candidates on Thursday, all candidates from Punjab for the Senate elections were declared elected unopposed on general seats.
According to the provincial election commission sources, the candidates who were declared elected unopposed on general seats were: Kamil Ali Agha, Saifullah Sarwar Khan Nyazee, Afnan-Ullah Khan, Aon Abbas, Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Sajid Mir and Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui.
The sources said the notification of the elected candidates would be issued, along with other elected Senate candidates across country after March 3.
Azam Nazir Tarar and Barrister Syed Ali Zafar had already been declared elected unopposed on the technocrat seats, while Zarqa Suharwardy and Saadia Abbasi were declared elected unopposed on the women seats. Thursday was the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers. ....
