May 9, 2021 TEA AT THE MUSEUM: McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum will host a Victorian afternoon tea at 3 p.m. May 16. Cost is $45. Seating is limited to reservations, which are needed by Monday. GARDENERS HOLD PLANT SALE: The Trumbull County Masters Gardeners will return with their annual plant sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trumbull County Agricultural Center. Masks and a 6-foot physical distance between customers is required. Guests are asked to follow the arrows on the ground and not to enter the sale area until permitted by a volunteer. There will be a vintage garden tent at the event.

Niles cereal drive to help hungry | News, Sports, Jobs

May 2, 2021 FOOD DONATIONS: Niles Community Services is holding a cereal drive through May 29 at the McKinley Memorial Library in Niles. The effort is to help feed residents of the community. Cereal boxes can be dropped off at the library. All brands of cereal are welcome. Donors are asked to make sure donations are not open or expired. WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY: The Youngstown Press Club will observe World Press Freedom Day at noon Monday at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center. During the observance, which will be livestreamed on the press club’s Facebook page, press club members will read the names of 50 journalists killed while serving their communities in 2020 and five additional journalists killed this year. The list of journalists slain because of their activities was compiled by the Reporters Without Borders, an international organization dedicated to defending freedom of the press.

Celebrate Earth Day with cleanup | News, Sports, Jobs

The seeing eye Apr 11, 2021 DISTRICT SEEKS VOLUNTEERS: The Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste Management District has kicked off its litter cleanup campaign. The program, called the Great American Cleanup, is part of a national campaign through Keep America Beautiful. Local volunteers receive trash bags, litter grabbers, safety vests and gloves. All cleanup volunteers will receive an Earth Day T-shirt while supplies last as a thank you gift. Service groups, neighborhood clubs, schools, Scouts and communities seek out littered areas and then register their cleanup date to receive supplies.
