Undecorating North Pole Stroll The sixth annual North Pole Stroll is winding down at Big Spring Memorial Park in Athens. Sponsors have until the end of today to remove the decorations from their tree. Leave the tree and sign standing. The Tinsel Trail is located at the Bryan House at the corner of Ardmore Avenue and First Street. Undecorated trees Starting Jan. 1, undecorated trees from the North Pole Stroll display will be available for pickup. The Athens-Limestone Tourism Office asks that those interested in picking up a tree wait until the tree is without decorations and laying on the side of the sidewalk before retrieving it. Donations should be non-perishable and can be dropped off at the Democrats headquarters, 22143 U.S. 72 East, Athens (next to Buffalo Wild Wings). Food will be distributed by Tanner United Methodist Church.

TVA, Athens Utilities pass out more CARES funds

1 of 8 Athens Main Street was given $11,000 to help fund family-friendly holiday events like the Christmas Open House and Sippin Cider. “For our local merchants, holiday sales constitute 40 percent of their yearly revenue, and these (holiday) activities also encourage people to shop and eat local while they are enjoying the events downtown,” Athens Main Street Director Tere Richardson wrote in her application. The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives was granted $3,000. “The museum develops and maintains the preservation of archives and artifacts that exemplify the achievements and memories of armed forces veterans,” Hollman said. “The museum also offers programs for veterans and the public, such as patriotic programs, Coffee Call, etc.”
