The challenge took place on April 24, aiming to raise funds for Covid-19 victims across the UK, Bangladesh and globally. At the event, Sadiq Khan remarked, Dabirul is a true representation of London. As a Muslim, I understand how it feels fasting for 16/17 hours every day. And here we have a Londoner who is 101 years old, fasting, serving our communities in London and across the globe. A centenarian fundraiser is to lead a global walking challenge while fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Dabirul Islam Choudhury, 101, was made an OBE after previous fundraising efforts raised more than £420,000 during lockdown. He has set the challenge, which has seen people in more than 150 cities worldwide sign up to raise funds for Covid-19 victims. The challenge, which has so far raised more than £8,000, was originally due to take place on April 17, but was changed to April 24 to avoid a clash with the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.
