A Dhaka court today directed the deputy inspector general of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case filed against Dhaka South City Corporation s former mayor Sayeed Khokon and six others over embezzlement of Tk 34.89 crore.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ashek Imam passed the order a day after Delwar Hossain, president of Traders Owners Association of Fulbaria City Supermarket-2 in the capital s Gulistan, filed the case against them.
The magistrate also directed PBI to submit a report after an investigation into the allegations by January 31 next year, Md Atiqur Rahman, bench assistant of the court, told The Daily Star. ....

Dhaka South City Corporation former mayor Sayeed Khokon and six others have been sued on charges of embezzlement of Tk 34.89 crore.
Delwar Hossain, president of Traders-Owners Association of Fulbaria City Supermarket-2 in the capital s Gulistan, filed the case with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam yesterday, Atiqur Rahman, bench assistant of the court, told The Daily Star.
The six other accused are: Yusuf Ali Sardar, former chief revenue officer of the city corporation, Md Mazed, former deputy assistant engineer of the city corporation, and their assistants Kamrul Hasan, Helena Akter, Atiqur Rahman Swapan and Md Walid. ....

The additional district and sessions judge-I of Mathura will now hear the case involving Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan and three others, with a court here holding that the chief judicial magistrate was not competent to hear the matter and order remand of the accused.
“The chief judicial magistrate, Mathura, would ensure transfer of all the records, remand papers, etc. to the court of the additional district and sessions judge-I immediately,” stated an order passed by district and sessions judge Yashavant Kumar Mishra earlier this week.
