City of El Paso urges residents to prepare for mosquito season


Elderly populations and those with underlying medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease and people who have received organ transplants are at higher disk of developing serious illnesses from mosquito-borne West Nile Virus.
“Vulnerable populations for COVID-19 are some of the same individuals who could be affected greatly by a disease like West Nile Virus,” Angela Mora, director of Public Health, said in a news statement. “We need to be vigilant and proactive in order to prevent mosquito breeding and mosquito bites.”
Other diseases spread to humans from mosquitos, but haven t been detected in El Paso, include Zika, Chikungunya and Dengue. Currently there is no scientific evidence to suggest mosquitoes spread COVID-19. ....

El Paso health officials urge COVID-19 vaccinations as demand drops


Vaccinating younger adults, however, is the biggest goal for city officials moving forward.
All those young adults are probably working or probably still have some doubts about getting vaccinated, said Dr. Hector Ocaranza, the city-county health authority for the El Paso Department of Public Health.
The city has been taking vaccinations to residents through pop-up vaccination clinics across the city during events such as the El Paso Artists and Farmers Market or at the unveiling of a new community center.
