Zoo to be set up at Hiran Minar National May 20, 2021 LAHORE: Secretary Tourism & Archaeology Department Ehsan Bhutta chaired a meeting here on Wednesday which reviewed to keep deer in the historical Hiran Minar of Mughal period. DG Wildlife Sanaullah Khan, Additional Secretary Tourism, Director Archaeology Maqsood Malik and other officers took part in the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that a team under the supervision of DG Wildlife will review the establishment of a small zoo in the Hiran Minar. Secretary Tourism said deer will be brought up in the zoo to attract the tourists. Briefing the meeting on facilities being provided to different tourist destinations, Project Director PTAC informed the meeting that the construction work on three new roads including Rohtas By-Pass Jhelum and Chanan Peer Bahawalpur will start in July. Preservation of museums stressed May 18, 2021 LAHORE:Adviser to Chief Minister on Tourism & Archaeology Asif Mahmood has stressed on the need of preservation and restoration of treasure trove of the past placed at various museums. In his message regarding “International Museum Day”, today (Tuesday), he said the Punjab government had initiated a comprehensive project to establish new museums besides restoration of existing ones. “New museums established at Kalar Kahar and Gujrat while a state-of-the-art auditorium has been set up at Harappa museum”, he said. The International Council of Museums (ICOM) observed International Museum Day in 1977. The organisation chooses a different theme for the day and coordinates every year. Some of the themes include globalisation, indigenous peoples, bridging cultural gaps and caring for the environment. “The Future of Museums: Recover and Re-imagine” is the theme selected for the year 2021. National May 13, 2021 LAHORE: After restoration and preservation of 170-year old paintings of Hungarian painter August Schoffet have been put on display at Sikh Gallery, Lahore Fort. This task was completed by Archeology Directorate and Tourism Department in collaboration with Hungarian Embassy and Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA). Paintings of Hungarian artist August Schoefft, who visited Lahore between 1841 and 1842, displayed in Princess Bamba Gallery at Lahore Fort. According to historical accounts, Schoefft belonged to a family of artists. The street where he was born in 1809 is still known as ‘Képíró Utca’/Artists’. In November 1841, Schoefft arrived at the court of Maharaja Sher Singh, the openly anglophile successor of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Schoefft completed a number of paintings for Sher Singh which he left behind in the royal Tosha Khana or treasury. Schoefft took away with him sketches of personalities he encountered in Lahore. ....
