Salvadoran Woman Who Died in Mexican Police Custody Has History of Abuse

Authorities reported on Tuesday that the Salvadoran woman who died while in Mexican police custody was also an abuse victim. She was reportedly abused by her companion, whom the police has arrested.
The governor of the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico, Carlos Joaquin, confirmed that the Salvadoran victim, Victoria Esperanza Salazar was abused, but the governor did not specify whether the abuse was physical or sexual.
According to Associated Press, officials of the Mexican Police stated that Salazar died on Saturday after a female police officer was spotted kneeling on her on a street in the resort of Tulum. The officials also added that there is an ongoing investigation conducted towards four officers. The autopsy found that the neck of Salazar was broken. ....

On Saturday, 36-year-old Victoria Esperanza Salazar Arriaza, a Salvadoran immigrant and mother of two, died a brutal and painful death at the hands of police in the Mexican tourist city of Tulum. Her murder was caught on a video which has gone viral on social media.

The horrific footage shows Salazar handcuffed and pinned facedown into the asphalt and screaming as a female police officer forces her knee into Salazar’s back as three male officers stand around her. It is unclear how much time Salazar spent in this position. The video cuts to Salazar’s limp body. She is still handcuffed, and the unaffected officers pick up and heave her limp body onto the bed of their police truck. No resuscitation or medical services whatsoever were attempted on Salazar by the officers. ....
