VICTORY: Worcester MP Robin Walker and James Stanley (right) who won in Gorse Hill and Warndon THE CONSERVATIVES have increased their majority on Worcestershire County Council after a disastrous day for Labour which saw the party lose six seats including its leader. It was a successful day for the Conservatives following Thursday’s election with the party snatching seats from Labour in Worcester, Redditch and Bromsgrove as well as claiming victory against a number of independent candidates on the 57-seat council. The Conservatives increased their majority by five claiming 45 seats in total. Labour dropped to three after losing six seats, the Lib Dems gained a seat overall winning four in total which now makes them the official opposition, the Greens gained a seat pushing them up to three seats and there were also two independent candidates elected. ....
A SHOP owner in Evesham and a Worcestershire County Council candidate have raised concerns about the council’s decision to begin new roadworks on Port Street. Work is set to get underway on Monday, April 19, to make improvements to Port Street and at the Waterside/Port Street Junction, as part of county council’s plan to relieve congestion in the town centre. Paul Turner, the owner of Vale Cycles bike store in Port Street, expressed concerns that the roadworks could have an impact on customers being able to visit the street following the easing of lockdown restrictions. He said: “The roadworks have got to be done but it does seem a strange time to do it. ....
