Temperatures are hitting summertime digits this week. This shift in weather will be a hardship and medical threat to many senior citizens living without central air. REALTORS® will provide a welcome relief to 25 senior citizens by delivering free window AC units.
In its 10th year, the REALTOR® Foundation of Wake County (RFOWC) will donate 25 AC units to recipients who qualify through Wake County Human Services. Upon notification of a senior in need, a REALTOR® volunteers to deliver the AC units within 24 hours. RFOWC’s lifetime distribution of AC units is 231. ....

Pandemic enters personal responsibility phase with most restrictions ending


The state, however, did enter what may become known as the personal responsibility phase.
Cooper and state Health Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen acknowledged as much when asked why the 54% of North Carolinians, or about 6.6 million, who aren’t fully vaccinated should act now with most restrictions ending.
“The CDC has affirmed that getting vaccinated is the way out of this pandemic,” Cooper said.
For herd immunity to kick in, at least 65% to 75% of the population would need to be vaccinated or have recovered from the coronavirus, according to most infectious diseases experts.
“Certainly, we don’t know whether people are vaccinated or not,” Cooper said. “We’re going to expect people to do the right thing, particularly since these new variants are even more contagious.” ....

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina health officials said on Thursday that they stopped administering Johnson & Johnson doses at a mass vaccination site in Raleigh and at clinics in Hillsborough and Chapel Hill after at least 26 people experienced adverse reactions, including fainting. ....

Johnson & Johnson vaccine's adverse reactions force North Carolina to halt shots at sites


“Right now, we are working with NC DHHS (the state Department of Health and Human Services) and the CDC to further evaluate the situation to assure everyone is confident in the continued safety of our vaccine operations,” said a statement from Kim McDonald, medical director at Wake County Human Services.
Wake County announced Thursday evening that it stopped administering Johnson & Johnson doses at PNC Arena after 18 of the more than 2,300 people vaccinated experienced adverse reactions, including four individuals who were taken to hospitals and are expected to be released.
The decision to halt J&J vaccines at PNC Arena was made with less than two hours of appointments left to be administered. People who were at the site were then given Pfizer vaccines or allowed to reschedule their existing J&J appointments. ....
