In his recent letter “What a crew” (Letters, April 27), George Ewert asks, “Can any Canadian tell me that they would rather vote Liberal or NDP?” Well George, my answer is that I will be supporting the NDP. Why? Because they are the only ones I can trust to do what’s best for the majority of Canadians, not just the select few. Our economic system is broken, and the ultra-rich have been the prime beneficiaries for the past 40 years. I don’t expect you to arbitrarily take my word for this, but do yourself a favour and do some research. A good place to start would be to access Nick Hanauer’s The Dirty Secret of Capitalism on YouTube. Mr. Hanauer is himself an entrepreneur, venture capitalist and multi-billionaire. Yet he is able to clearly illustrate how the continuing decline of the middle and lower classes, in terms of prosperity, has put our entire economy in grave jeopardy. Even when Trudeau speaks the truth, it is somewhat the truth. Case in point, he takes the stage with all his usual “ah, ah” gravitas to announce he is “ pausing” flights from India and Pakistan, which should have been done several months ago, what he doesn’t say is flights from India and Pakistan through connecting through any available countries are still ongoing. So in actuality, not a pause, an inconvenience. He isn’t even called out on it, as usual. Brutal.

The CFL’s own schedule has their first game in Alberta as early as May 23, with the BC Lions playing the Calgary Stampeders. Before this game can even take place there are three reasonable things that must happen. First, the players have to report to training camp. Second, the American players have to cross the border into Canada and go through their quarantine period. Third, all CFL players who did not play professional football in 2020 or to date in 2021 have to give fair termination notice to their interim employers. Despite having no CFL games in 2020 and the CFL administration having over an entire year to plan a “Return-To-Play Critical Path,” it seems the CFL has again let the clock run out on another season with no guidance to what the CFL players should do regarding their employment or an announcement on a “bubble strategy” for the beginning of the season. Considering the NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL all had operating seasons in 2 ....
