India reported more than 4,000 single-day coronavirus deaths for the first time as the nation battles the world’s worst outbreak. China’s Sinopharm Group won World Health Organization backing for its Covid-19 vaccine, paving the way for a wider rollout in countries scrambling for jabs.
Singapore will reduce entry approvals for foreign workers, and delay the arrival of many already approved, to reduce imported cases. Thailand posted more than 2,400 new cases, the highest single-day tally in two weeks. The country is in the grip of a third wave, the worst since the pandemic began. New cases and deaths have almost tripled since the end of March.

The European Commission proposed easing restrictions on business and leisure travel for those who have been fully inoculated against Covid-19, adding to signs of a gradual return to normalcy as vaccinations gather pace.
The European Union’s executive arm recommended welcoming tourists from countries with relatively low infection rates as well as those who are fully vaccinated.
In the U.S., cases slowed to 45,236, the fewest on a Saturday since late September. Daily cases rose 0.1% on Sunday, slower than the average daily increase of 0.2% over the past week.

Confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. rose at the slowest pace since the pandemic began in the week ended Sunday, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University and Bloomberg. Florida banned the use of so-called vaccine passports.
