The state follows a pattern in cases brought against it, which is unrelenting in its approach, and essentially wastes taxpayers’ money because at every turn it ends up suffering crushing legal defeat.
These observations belong to counsel Jomo Thomas, who expressed them at a press conference at his chambers on Wednesday, January 6.
“…The actions of the state as it relates to Bigger’s case is reflective of the Government’s posture on a whole series of other cases that are brought,” Thomas stated.
The lawyer, known for taking on constitutional matters, was speaking on the topic of his client Leon ‘Bigger Biggs’ Samuel’s land dispute with the state, which is ongoing. ....

Attorney Jomo Thomas did not let the government escape without reprimand for their disregard for court rulings against it.

Jomo Thomas, attorney-at-law and former Speaker of the House of Assembly, has chided the ruling Unity Labour Party for disrespecting court orders, as it relates to settling with persons against who it had loss court cases.
Thomas, speaking at a press briefing last Wednesday at his Chambers in Kingstown, highlighted government’s reluctance to settle with persons against whom it had lost court matters, and referenced the matters involving Otto Sam, three teachers (Kenroy Johnson, Elvis Daniel, and Addison Bash” Thomas), as well as the conflict with Public Servants.  ....
