If you didn’t know, Geely Auto is one of the sponsors for the 19th Asian Games, which will be held at the Chinese carmaker’s home city of Hangzhou in 2022. Apart from providing the Preface (or Xing Rui) as the official vehicle of the games, the company recently launched a commemorative version of the Boyue (Proton X70 to us here).
Called the Boyue Asian Games Edition, the model is based on the regular Boyue sold in China and not the fancier Boyue Pro. Highlights of the exterior include the Infinite Weave grille that is identical to the one on the X70 and an earlier special model celebrating the SUV’s million-unit sales milestone. ....

During the launch of the Proton Saga facelift in August 2019, the national carmaker revealed its product launch strategy, which would see one new model be introduced every year. Since then, we’ve already welcomed the X50 in 2020, so if the company keeps to its game plan, what should we look forward to this year?
Referring to the presentation slide shown at the time, 2021 should see the arrival of a new Proton sedan, although the company has yet to provide any preliminary details, including what segment such a model will occupy. ....

Many people were fans of the original Proton Suprima S. The car was easy on the eyes, had the right proportions, and drove reasonably well, too. Wouldn’t it be nice, then, for a successor come along? Well, these renderings by Theophilus Chin ought to give us a taste.
We’re not sure if you could tell, but the donor car appears to be the Ford Focus Mk4. One could tell from the window surrounds and wing mirrors, as well as the front apron and rear bumper design. Certain elements of the front fascia are clearly borrowed from the X50, such as the headlights, Infinite Weave grille design, and the Proton roundel. Even the SUV’s 18-inch dual-tone wheels and red brake calipers are featured here. ....

The Geely Boyue has collectively sold over one million units globally since its introduction in late 2016, the Chinese carmaker formally announced recently. Nicknamed “the most beautiful SUV” by Chinese media and consumers when it was first introduced, the Boyue has since been launched in over 17 countries across the world, including Russia, as well as markets in Eastern Europe, South America, Africa and Southeast Asia.
In some of these markets, the Boyue is also known as the Atlas, Emgrand X7 Sport or Azkarra, but for us here in Malaysia, we know it as the Proton X70. Suffice to say, the SUV has been a hit with car buyers here since its launch back in December 2018, contributing to the Boyue’s global sales figure. Since then, the X70 has transitioned from being a fully-imported (CBU) model to becoming a locally-assembled (CKD) one, with the national carmaker’s Tan ....
