Minnesota Author Gets First Book Published [PODCAST] Minnesota author Ella Kennedy joined me on WJON today to talk about her book A Far Cry From Ordinary. Ella is a first time Minnesota author who has a home in the Cold Spring area but due to work opportunities is living and working in Singapore. Ella describes the book as a romantic suspense featuring a lawyer Kat Anderson who deals with labor relations and her adventures and challenges. Ella says she enjoyed the character development and wanted the characters to be people she d like to have a beer with. She says she s thought about writing a book for many years but parenting and work and life just kept that from happening. She said she thought more seriously about it when her kids moved on to college and her husband and her became empty nesters. Listen to our conversation below. ....
January 12, 2021 Alaska is as remote as it is conservative. I live in Sitka, Alaska, the largest city in the United States by square mile, with a population that sits just under 9,000. With only 14 miles of road, most of this land is forested and is part of the larger Tongass National Forest unique to Southeast Alaska. Sitka is an island that sits just off the coast of Juneau, and like Juneau, the only way to reach this city is either by boat or by plane. This makes shipping food and necessities an expensive endeavor. Subsistence living is essential especially for Alaskan natives and folks who live in remote regions and villages where fresh food is scarce or marked up at incredibly high rates. Living as a vegan here in Sitka, I am a minority in the sea of hunters and meat eaters.
