Eight vandalisms in the last month in Tranent as town's crimes detailed


EIGHT incidents of vandalism and two cases of fireraising were among crimes recorded by police in the Tranent and Elphinstone area over the past month, a report has revealed.
Details of all the crimes recorded in the area over the most recent month were included in a report sent to Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council ahead of the group’s meeting on Tuesday.
In the past month, there were 274 calls made to police regarding the Tranent and Elphinstone area, with a total of 46 crimes recorded as a result.
In April, of those crimes which were acquisitive – where a criminal derives material gain – three were house break-ins, five were shoplifitings, two were the theft of a vehicle, five were other thefts and six were fraud. ....

Hope to bring life-saving defibrillator machine to Elphinstone


Plans have been lodged for a a defibrillator to be placed outside Roots and Fruits in Elphinstone.
The machine uses an electric pulse or shock to the heart to restore a normal heartbeat.
They can also be used to prevent or correct an arrhythmia and restore the heart’s beating if it stops.
Elphinstone Community Association is asking East Lothian Council planning department’s permission for a defibrillator cabinet, with the machine then stored inside and available to anyone at any time.
Margo Macdonald, vice-chairwoman of Elphinstone Community Association, was hopeful that the machine could be in place soon.
She said: “It will be the only defibrillator in the village and it will be put up outside the shop, which is the main focal point for the village. ....

£50,000 of funding shared among organisations in East Lothian


NEARLY £50,000 has been split between projects from Dunbar and West Barns to Musselburgh and Tranent thanks to a national scheme.
A total of £1 million was shared nationally by the Scottish Government to help improve and fund communities.
Schemes serving Cockenzie and Port Seton, Dirleton, Dunbar, Haddington, Longniddry, Musselburgh, North Berwick, Prestonpans, Tranent and West Barns are among those benefiting from the Scotland Loves Local Fund. Funded by the Scottish Government, it aims to support small-scale improvements to promote and enhance places while helping motivate people to shop, eat and relax in their community and ensuring public safety.
Phil Prentice, chief officer of Scotland’s Towns Partnership, said: “We’re delighted this funding will bring some brilliant projects across East Lothian to life. ....
