At around 6pm on Monday (April 26) police were called to Eldon Avenue after two men were seen acting suspiciously in the area. Officers from the Borehamwood safer neighbourhood team and scorpion team attended and located the men who were stopped, searched and found to be in possession of cannabis and cash. Both men were arrested on suspicion of being in possession with intent to supply class B drugs. They were subsequently released on bail, with conditions not to enter the borough of Hertsmere, while enquiries continue. ....
The cost of residents’ parking permits and paying to park in car parks and shopping streets in Borehamwood and Elstree is set to increase from April 1. A notice from Hertsmere Borough Council has outlined the full schedule of charges that are due to take effect from the start of next month across the borough. These apply to on-street permit holder parking places, pay and display and on-street parking charges, off-street car parking areas and permits for business and school parking. Permit parking The annual cost of one resident’s permit will rise from £25 to £30 from April 1, £40 to £50 for a second permit, £70 to £80 for a third permit and £100 to £110 for a fourth permit. ....
Hertfordshire County Council has reduced the funding for certain highways schemes for the forthcoming financial year. This means a number of projects will not take place as planned. In Borehamwood, this includes the resurfacing of a section of Elstree Way and Balmoral Drive. The Hertfordshire Liberal Democrats have criticised the decision to slash the highways budget for repairing roads by a total of £8m up to 2025. Lib Dem highways spokesperson, Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, said: The Conservatives claim that our side roads have improved over recent years. There may have been some improvements but it was from a very low base. ....
The shooting started just after midnight on Elton Avenue in the Melrose section. Police say they initially observed two men spray painting graffiti and made a stop at 153rd and Third Avenue. The men then got in the car and tried to flee when officers pulled them over and they took off on foot, authorities said. Officers gave chase and caught up with one of the men when there was a struggle and they say the man pulled a semi-automatic hand gun on the officers and began firing. After a brief foot chase, one officer was able to grab one of the subjects. As the officer struggled with the man in an attempt to arrest him, the subject pulled out a semiautomatic handgun and fired at least three rounds at the officers, said NYPD Chief Terry Monahan. ....
