Berrow and Brean Community Hubs re-opening this month as Covid restrictions ease
Berrow and Brean Community Hubs and Cafes will be re-opening this month as Covid restrictions ease.
The hubs will restart on July 20th at Berrow Village Hall and on July 22nd at Brean Village Hall. Both will run from 1-3pm.
Everyone is welcome and the organisers are encouraging residents to bring along someone who might be finding it difficult to get back out into the community. There will be plenty of coffee, tea and cake!
Spokeswoman Lesley Millard says: “We now have over 30 volunteers from different parts of the community. We have members of St Mary’s Church, St Bridgets Church, Brean Methodist Church, Burnham Baptist Church and also members of the community who want to support us. We are non-profit making and are seeking further funding to help us sustain our work for a year. ” ....

Crosslake City Attorney Brad Person on Monday, April 12, provided the following written summaries of recent closed city council meetings, and council member Dave Schrupp read each summary:
The council considered a respectful workplace complaint that an employee initiated and took no disciplinary action. The Respectful Workplace Policy will be distributed to and reviewed by all employees, including department heads and administration, as well as city council, city board and city commission members.
The council approved this action with Marcia Seibert-Volz abstaining. The council had hired a Duluth attorney as a third party to investigate this complaint. ....

Demorest mayor sues Piedmont president, trustees for alleged conspiracy
Demorest Mayor Rick Austin is suing the top leadership of Piedmont University for alleged conspiracy. Austin claims Piedmont president Dr. James Mellichamp and members of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees unlawfully conspired to remove him from his position as a tenured biology professor at the school and his elected position as mayor of Demorest in retaliation for an affidavit he submitted in a former colleague’s wrongful termination lawsuit.
Austin’s attorney, Matthew Billips, of Atlanta, filed the lawsuit last week in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. The suit states that, since that subpoenaed testimony and affidavit, Austin has been subjected “to numerous retaliatory acts by Piedmont College, Dr. James Mellichamp, the officers of Piedmont College, and others associated with, ....

MACON, Ga. Although the Beall’s Hill Neighborhood Association is strongly behind a new restaurant, nearby churches fought the project during Monday’s Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.
In November, P&Z approved Robert Fisher’s plan to build Mamas Rogue Southern Cooking in the old Korner Kupboard building at 1182 Calhoun St. No one spoke against the project last fall. ....
