Ancient Battle Arrowhead Found in Goliath's Hometown

An arrowhead made from bone has been discovered in the ancient Philistine city of Gath (also known as Tell es-Safi) – the hometown of Goliath (the giant that was killed by the young David).
The weapon may have been used during the city’s last stand that was written about in the Bible. Based on the story in the Hebrew Bible, King Hazael (he ruled the kingdom of Aram from approximately 842 BC to 800 BC) conquered Gath prior to turning his focus on Jerusalem.
During excavations conducted in the city of Gath, experts found that there was a lot of destruction that occurred in the later part of the 9 ....

Huge Mound in Syria May Be the World's Oldest War Memorial

A large mound in Syria might be the world’s oldest war memorial as it was built prior to the year 2300 BC. The mound, which was constructed with soil that was piled up, contains human remains who may have been foot soldiers or charioteers – it’s unclear whether these remains were from the winners or losers of the battle.
Named Tell Banat North (or the White Monument because of the chalky white color that the mineral gypsum gives off), it was discovered back in the 1980s and 90s, but when the Tishrin Dam on the Euphrates River was built in 1999, the mound was submerged in water. It has only been re-examined recently. ....

World's Oldest Tattoo Tools Found in Tennessee | Mysterious Universe

The world’s oldest known tools used for creating tattoos have been discovered in Tennessee. The sharpened ends of turkey leg bones, which were believed to have been used as tattoo needles, date back to at least 3,620 years ago. As a matter of fact, they could be as old as 5,520 years.
These are significantly older than the tattoo kit that was found in Tonga and date back about 2,700 years. That tattoo kit included tools made from human bones, bone combs, and an ink pot.
The tools found in Tennessee were analyzed and experts believe they were used by Native Americans thousands of years ago. They were uncovered in a male’s burial pit located at the Fernvale site. Additional finds in the pit included two turkey wing bones that contained pigment residue. This suggests that those bones were also used during the tattooing process. Seashells with pigment stains indicate that they were used to hold the ink that the tattoo artists dipped the bone needles into. (A picture of the ....

Harry Potter Marine Lizard and the Oldest Side-Necked Turtle

Pluridens serpentis, became extinct around 66 million years ago.
Scientists from the United Kingdom, France, and Morocco reconstructed this new species from “…two complete skulls and referred jaws.” Based on their reconstruction, the
Pluridens serpentis was believed to have measured as long as 8 meters (26 feet). This is staggering as the majority of the species’ relatives only grew to about a few meters in length.
It had “elongate and robust jaws, small teeth, and specialized tooth implantation” that would have helped it to catch small prey. Additionally, it wouldn’t have been able to see very far because it had such small eyes. According to the study, it probably “relied on nonvisual cues including touch and chemoreception during foraging, as in modern marine snakes.” ....
