Zambia : Church, Funeral gatherings must be restricted

Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga is concerned that churches and funerals have continued to be super-spreaders of covid-19 and has called for restricting to such public gatherings.
Mr. Kamanga notes that the death of a number of the clergy is evidence that the disease is being spread in places of worship saying more needs to be done to ensure adherence to health guidelines.
Speaking during a virtual covid-19 multi-sectoral committee meeting yesterday, Mr. Kamanga noted that people have continued to gather in large numbers in churches and funerals.
“This is the case even when the deceased is reported to have died from covid 19, people will be at funerals in large numbers disregarding the health guidelines,” he said. ....

Zambia : Ministry of Health develops new anti-gene test for Covid-19

The Ministry of Health has come up with a new antigen test for Covid 19 that detects results within 30 minutes.
Lusaka Province Health Director Consity Mwale noted that the new Covid 19 antigen test is done through nose swabbing and the specimen is not sent to the laboratory like before.
Dr Mwale said the staff instead are able to mix the specimen immediately and advise the client whether they are negative or positive.
Dr Mwale added that the new Covid 19 anti-gene test is a game changer that quickly helps in stopping local transmission that happens when transferring the specimen to the laboratory. ....

Zambia : Kamanga expresses concern over poor health services civil servants are receiving from NHIMA

Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga has expressed concern over the poor health services that civil servants have been receiving from the National Health Insurance Management (NHIMA).
Mr Kamanga noted that his office had lately received concerns from civil servants on the mismanagement of NHIMA saying a lasting solution needs to be found for the statute body to improve on the service delivery.
“A follow-up on NHIMA’s poor service delivery will be made and feedback will be given in due course,“he said.
The Provincial Permanent Secretary highlighted this concern during the Provincial Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) 4th Quarter Report meeting which was held virtually. ....

Zambia : Government urges local governments to strategize against looming floods

The government has urged councils and health authorities in Lusaka to develop strategies to prevent a looming diarrheal outbreak following intensified rains that have caused floods in the capital.
Lusaka Province Bowman Lusambo says necessary measures should be taken to ensure that diseases such as cholera do not affect the province.
Speaking during the Provincial Development Coordinating Committee (PDDC) virtual meeting, the provincial minister stressed the need for Lusaka City Council (LCC) to ensure that all residential and trading places are kept clean by undertaking regular inspections.
“I also want to appeal to the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company to ensure that water contamination is avoided at all costs especially in Lusaka district. I expect the company to secure water points which were not secure,” he said. ....

Zambia : Russian delegation seek investment in Zambia

A delegation from Russia is in Zambia to explore opportunities of investments and collaboration in areas of agriculture, mining and technology with the Zambian government.
The delegation who this morning paid a courtesy call on Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo notes that Zambia stands out as a strategic partner in investment, due to the transparency and openness exhibited by its people.
