Brian Johnstone who brought Pink Floyd to St Andrews University, established himself as an internationally acclaimed poet and was a founder of the StAnza festival has died aged 70.
He began his literary career with a reading at the Edinburgh Fringe aged 18 and in the decades that followed produced four collections of poetry, a memoir and anthologies among a much-feted body of work. ....

StAnza, Scotland’s international poetry festival, has been hailed a huge success despite the challenges of Covid-19.
The annual event moved online this year in response to the pandemic.
But festival organisers say this did not detract from its outcome, with the opening night alone attracting more than double its normal audience.
StAnza finished on Sunday after more than 80 events held over nine days.
The Botanic Garden hosted a poetry trail.
Festival director Eleanor Livingstone said she was thrilled the festival had brought joy to so many. ....

StAnza poetry festival huge success despite challenges of Covid
Scotland’s International Poetry Festival (StAnza) was a huge success despite challenges of Covid.
The annual event was forced to move online in response to the pandemic but festival organisers say this did not detract from its outcome.
Festival Director, Eleanor Livingstone, said: “There is no doubt this year has been a very different type of StAnza but at a time when people need hope and something to look forward to, we are absolutely thrilled we were able to deliver a festival which has brought joy to so many. 
“We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm with which people embraced our online hybrid event.  Our opening night gala attracted more than double its normal audience which in itself is testament to the success of our online format. ....

StAnza, Scotland’s International Poetry Festival, is set to go live online this weekend.
The annual St Andrews-based celebration of poetry, which is due to open on Saturday, will take the form of a hybrid, digital festival for the first time due to Covid-19, with dozens of local, national and international poets taking part in the festival over nine days
StAnza 2021 will open with a first night extravaganza showcasing a selection of poems, film, art and music with readings from Saili Katebe and Jane Longhurst as well as music from Glasgow-based folksinger, songwriter and ukulele player Claire Hastings. ....
