Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said the funds were distributed to SUNY Erie, the Buffalo Zoo and FeedMore WNY. “Extending this funding to these organizations will help them to continue operations despite the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has presented,” Poloncarz said. “2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, and while it is late in the year it’s not too late to help. (WKBW) â The Erie County Executive s Office announced Monday three local organizations would receive year-end COVID-19 relief. FeedMore WNY, Buffalo Zoo and SUNY Erie will receive a total of $1.8 million in year-end COVID-19 Relief Funding (CRF) prior to the December 30 deadline for the use of the funds. Officials say Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz directed the county Division of Budget and Management to reach out to local organizations to determine if the remaining CRF could be used to assist them. FeedMore WNY will receive $677,563.73 in CRF, officials say it has seen a massive increase in demand for food assistance. Funding will be used to reimburse FeedMore for emergency food distribution, additional staff, hazard pay, PPE and infection control costs. ....
The Detroit Zoological Society announced the birth of a female lion cub, the first born in the zoo for since 1980. Binti, whose name means daughter in Swahili, was born Sept. 10, 2020, to mother Asha and father Simba. Asha came to the Detroit Zoo from the Buffalo Zoo last year, as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Program. - Advertisement - Simba once lived with the royal family of Qatar, and was given to the zoo in 2013. Binti was born via cesarean section after Asha experienced difficulty giving birth. Three other cubs were stillborn.
