WILMINGTON Julie Faulk-Lewis, 48, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021.
She was born Oct. 18, 1972, in New Hanover County to Judith (Hamilton) Faulk and the late John Stephen Faulk.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband, William “Will” Lewis.
In addition to her mother, Julie is survived by her son, Cole Lewis; stepdaughter, Haven Lewis; brother, Eric Faulk; and many other family and friends.
A private family memorial gathering will be held in Julie’s honor at a later date.

Fran Hutchins, who helped lead the fight for marriage equality in Maine as the regional field director for Mainers United for Marriage, took on a new role as the executive director of the Equality Federation at the beginning of the year.
Hutchins, a 44-year-old queer woman, has been with the Equality Federation since 2012 and is its third executive director. She is the first mixed-race Asian American to lead the organization.
When she spoke to the Bay Area Reporter January 6, Hutchins was settling into her new role. She spoke with the paper just a few moments before the insurrection in the U.S. Capitol building by pro-Trump rioters. ....

NEW YORK, Dec. 18 (Korea Bizwire) Fighting to reduce lengthy sentences for youth. Building a network of Black HIV movement lawyers. Tackling structural racism through the power of dance. Organizing differently-abled people who have engaged with the criminal justice system. Providing a toolkit to help those affected by the criminalization of immigration.
These are just a few of the projects being undertaken by the 2020 class of Soros Justice Fellows, a mix of artists, advocates, organizers, and researchers dedicated to advancing reforms and addressing the ills of the U.S. criminal justice system. These 19 fellows, who hail from eight different states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C., will receive a stipend of $57,500 to $127,500, for full-time projects lasting between 12 and 18 months. ....
