But the hot weather did not relent east of the Cascade Range in Oregon and Washington, where excessive heat warnings remained in place. The National Weather Service forecast more heat in Idaho and Montana for the rest of the week. A farm laborer died over the weekend in St. Paul, Oregon, according to the state s Occupational Health and Safety division. Officials there did not release any further details of that casualty and did not publicly identify the person. ....

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport set an all-time high temperature of 106 Fahrenheit, breaking the record set one day earlier. Portland s airport temperature reached 115 on Monday, breaking the all-time high for the third day in a row. Before setting a record of 112 on Sunday and 108 on Saturday, the previous mark of 107 had not been reached since 1981, the National Weather Service said. ....
