WXXV News 25 Mississippi Power teamed up with the City of Moss Point and some other groups to work with older teens on job search skills, career awareness, and the motivation of making better choices. Nine businesses came together to discuss ways to provide better opportunities for young people in Jackson County with a focus on workforce development and education. Life skills, mock interview preparation, and vocational opportunities were specific topics at the Workforce Development event. Workforce Development Partnership Director of Outreach Eric Dickey said, “We have invited numerous of individuals particular in the workforce development such as hair dresser, barber, pipe fitter, plumber, state troopers, law enforcement rather, as well as motivational speakers to help the young people understand that many of them have had the same stories that many of them are encountering today and yet they have become every successful in their career path.” ....

February 12, 2021 86-year-old Allen J. “Red” Smith of Wayne City, died February 11 at Cisne Rehabilitation Center of Covid. Losing his father at a young age, Red was a self-made entrepreneur. He lived everyday believing in hard work and honesty. He had the utmost respect for those that did the same. Helping many to achieve success, he was enormously generous and charitable. Red proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 being stationed in Germany. He owned and operated a dragline service, farm tiling business, was co-owner and operator of Wayne City Drilling. He was also a land developer, developing many acres of land and two subdivisions. After retiring from the oil business, he spent countless hours volunteering his time cooking in his smoker helping raise funds for the Wayne City Teen Center and the Boy Scouts to name a few. ....
