Wood tapped to help lead economic recovery

The city of Half Moon Bay has tapped resident and nonprofit leader Erica Wood to help lead the Coastside’s economic recovery effort.
The announcement came at the Jan. 19 City Council meeting that Wood would work with Karen Decker, the city’s senior management analyst, to gather and analyze feedback from businesses and residents dotted all along the coast. Their goal is a plan to address the immediate impact of the pandemic while building a local economy that is robust against future disasters.
The city is calling its efforts the “Coastside Recovery Initiative,” and its scope stretches from Devil’s Slide to the southern county line, and east to Skyline Boulevard. Among its immediate priorities is to form an advisory board of about a dozen people living and working on the coast. ....

Sydney Howland Smith
We wish to notify family and friends that Sydney Howland Smith passed on at the age of 93 on Wednesday, Oct. 7, after a gradual decline in health spanning a period of many months.
He entered Mission Terrace rehabilitation facility at the end of February after experiencing a seizure at home. He was taken care of by Dr. Michael Omlid, who coincidentally took care of Sydney’s older brother Montford over a decade prior.
After six weeks of rehab, Sydney was unable to regain enough strength and mobility to return home, so he was moved to a Santa Barbara assisted living home. Due to several other health issues, he was placed on hospice care in July. ....
