Pittsburgh’s energy-saving 2030 District leads 22 cities in North America
Pittsburgh is the North American leader in terms of size out of 22 international 2030 Districts a voluntary effort to get property owners to commit to reducing energy use, water consumption and emissions usage by 50% by 2030. In addition, new construction and major renovation projects have committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 as part of the effort.
Pittsburgh has more than 86 million square feet of property dedicated to the 2030 District, encompassing 556 buildings. (New York City has so far committed only 21 million square feet of buildings). The world-renowned South Side-based Green Building Alliance, which has been spearheading the effort since 2012, calculates that this has meant savings of $205.8 million in energy and water costs, and 1.85 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions avoided since 2012. NTSB Releases Lessons Learned Report For 2019 - The Waterways Journal

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) cited a lack of organizational oversight as an important contributing factor to about a third of the marine accidents on which the NTSB completed investigations in 2019, including such significant inland incidents as the Stretch Duck 7, Buster Bouchard-B. No. 255, Miss Roslyn, Jeanette, Jonathon King Boyd–Bayou Chevron, Natalie Jean, Emsworth Dam and Ms. Nancy C accidents.
While crew fatigue was cited as a significant factor in several blue-water incidents, it was not cited as a major contributor to any towing vessel incidents that year.
Those were some of the conclusion of a report released December 10 by the NTSB, collecting the lessons learned from marine accidents in 2019. The report, titled “Safer Seas Digest: Lessons Learned from Marine Casualty Investigations,” was prepared by the NTSB’s Office of Safe ....
