Saving for retirement may not be the top financial priority for those starting their careers, but even the smallest pension contributions can add years of additional income.
Setting aside an extra 1pc of your salary for your pension can boost your final nest egg by 25pc if you start in your 20s. This can amount to tens of thousands of pounds over the years, figures compiled by Wealth at Work, a financial education group, have shown. 
Most people working today will have defined contribution pensions, which means the responsibility for turning this pot into a retirement income rests with you rather than the company you work for. But your employer must contribute to your pension pot under the Government’s auto-enrolment programme. ....

Travel isn’t currently an option, and for months Britons have been restricted in what they can do and who they can meet. And aside from being physically prevented from fulfilling their dreams, for many on the verge of retirement, Covid-19 has had a financial impact, too.
In 2021 about 680,000 Britons will reach state pension age, according to the Office for National Statistics, but the coronavirus means many are having to think again about when, or even if, they can stop work. ....
