Horse riders' relief as council U-turns on Frinton beach ban

A ban on riders using an Essex beach during the summer months has been overturned after the leader of the local council said the order had been imposed without official consent.
Signs were erected on Frinton Beach announcing that from Good Friday (2 April) until 30 September horses would be barred from the sands. New restrictions were also imposed for the winter months, only permitting riding on the beach until 11am.
Tendring District Council said the move was in response to “issues reported last season” and an anticipated influx of “out-of-area” riders and holiday makers when lockdown restrictions were lifted. ....

Horse riders are furious after council chiefs banned them from beach in Essex seaside resort


An upmarket seaside town has banned horse riders from the beach because councillors say the seafront will be too busy with staycationers this summer.    
For years horses have been ridden along the smooth sands at the smart resort of Frinton-on-Sea in Essex, but the animals have now been banned on the grounds of safety.
Thousands of horse riders who frequent the horse-friendly sands have signed a petition urging the council to reconsider the ban on the historic activity and suggesting a permit system is put in place instead - as it is for watersports.
Councillor Terry Allen, who supports the clampdown, said the seafront had become the wild west in previous years and that having tens of horses on the beach this summer was a recipe for disaster . ....
