Lahn also is secretary of Barnes & Thornburg’s management committee, which consists of managing partners of the firm’s 13 offices around the country. She is the firm’s only woman managing partner. Leading the Minneapolis office, which has 33 attorneys, is an opportunity to say, “How can I make this profession better for the women that are coming up behind me, for the men, for everybody,” Lahn said. ....
When Emily Hunt woke up naked in a London hotel room next to a complete stranger she was confused, scared, and suspected she had been drugged. She gathered her things, went to the bathroom, and called her friend who alerted the police. As she left the hotel room, the police were waiting in the lobby to arrest the man â Christopher Killick â on suspicion of rape. To Huntâs dismay, however, the Crown Prosecution Service didnât proceed with her case due to insufficient evidence. âThey donât go forward with most cases,â the now 41-year-old former PR executive says, referring to the statistic that only 1.4 per cent of police-recorded rapes in England and Wales resulted in a charge or a summons in the year to March 2019. Killick claimed the encounter was consensual and no prosecution for rape was ever brought against him. ....
Credit Emily Hunt / for WXXI News The Rochester Board of Education may be getting a pay cut at a time when most school districts and municipalities are preparing for significantly less state aid due to New York State’s budget crisis. Over the summer, Rochester City School District Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small said all departments should plan to reduce their budgets by 20% in case the worst happens. That means cutting more than $286,926 from the Board of Education’s $1,434,630 budget. The entire district budget is $927,587,824. Board Commissioner Amy Maloy suggested publicly Thursday what she has said to board members privately in recent months the cuts should start with board members’ salaries. ....
