But from this comes compelling artwork that also highlights hope. The Arlington Artists Alliance’s juried gallery, Gallery Underground, will feature Dreams and Nightmares from February 1-26, a fascinating all-media national juried exhibition. Artists were tasked with interpreting the theme, from the beautiful and sublime to the dark and twisted. Juried by D.C. sculptor Emily Francisco, the works chosen from around the country range from dreamy and figurative abstracts and humorous daydreams, to eerie landscapes and depictions of terrifying, living-nightmare psychotic episodes. There will be no opening reception due to COVID-19 guidelines, but the work can be seen on the walls of the gallery from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Gallery U ....

Another group focuses on the hopes and dreams of a brighter future. All factor into the latest National Juried Exhibition at Virginia’s Gallery Underground, part of Crystal City’s Art Underground. Artists from around the United States, working in a variety of media, responded to a call to submit works interpreting the “Dream and Nightmares” theme. Emily Francisco, a D.C.-based sculptor, serving as juror, selected a total of 48 artworks currently hanging on the walls of the Focus Gallery. ....
