The council’s manager of arts and culture, Emily Trent, said repairing the Grey monument is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to the care and maintenance of its existing collection. The pairs involved securing the loose head and modelling and replacing the missing nose and thumb. Costs came to $8900, which included height access, technical expertise, and materials, Trent said. She said the review of the monuments, announced in August, is still planned to go ahead. It came following questions from the Waitematā Local Board about whether the statues should be moved or taken down entirely. ....
