'No reasons to come to Chippenham' say readers

Here are your views and opinions on our top read stories online this week. People echoed the views of Stephen Ellis, who said the £7 million spent on Sadlers Mead car park in Chippenham could have gone to “countless” other projects. Only five cars were spotted in the vast multi-story there last Saturday - with the council urged to do more to encourage more people to use it. Rosemary Penny: Why would anyone want to come to Chippenham now it’s not the lovely market town of my childhood it’s been totally spoilt by bad planning decisions. Jo Corbett: I’ve used it once. It was a really hot day. I just wanted a parking spot in the shade. Otherwise I wouldn’t choose to park there.

Argument over sluggish crisps scanning ends up in court

By Advertiser Reporter Pictures: PEXELS A HOMELESS man ended up in court over an argument sparked by the speed with which a Tesco customer was scanning in a pack of crisps. Michael Ashton, 47, was said to have been in a hurry to reach a hostel in Chippenham so he could warm up his food before spending a night on the streets. He was behind his victim at the self-service checkouts in the Tesco Metro in Emery Gate, Chippenham, on October 11 last year. Prosecutor Graham Dono told Swindon Magistrates’ Court that Ashton said words to the effect of “f , how does it take this long when you’re only scanning crisps?”
