We’ve been featuring just a few amazing Black Ohioans who have helped shape public policy for the better. 124,000: Roughly 124,00 children in Ohio live with relatives or trusted family friends after being removed from their parents’ homes. More than 20 years ago, Brittney Madison was one of them. The ceremonial arch at Cleveland s African-American Cultural Garden was dedicated in 2016. Cleveland architect Daniel Bickerstaff intended it as the first phase of a larger project. The angled black walls below the arch represent the Door of No Return at Elmina Castle in Ghana, through which enslaved Africans passed before the Middle Passage to New World colonies. Steven Litt
